VICTORIAN MOURNING JEWELRY

During the Victorian era, it was common to wear “mourning jewelry”. This jewelry typically included hair from deceased loved one.

The deceased loved one’s hair would be carefully arranged within the brooch, often creating intricate pictures or designs.

Hair was considered to be an ideal keepsake, since it does not break down over time.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS GIVEAWAY!

Tis this season and while I wish I could do more I wanted to at least do a tiny little giveaway for my absurdly awesome followers. Seriously guys, you all rock and I want you to know how much I appreciate you all! So here are some little goodies for you!

•••HOW TO ENTER•••

• US Residents only! I’m sorry, international friends, but the United States has strict rules about shipping animal parts internationally.

• Be following me (since this is a follower appreciation giveaway after all).

• Like or Reblog this post as many times as you want.

• Have your ask box open so I can contact you when you win.

• And as per Tumblr’s giveaway rules you must be 18 or older to enter (or have a parent/guardian act in your stead). Also per their rules I must state that this giveaway is in no way affiliated with Tumblr.

That’s it!

I will be paying the shipping costs so the winners need not worry about that.

I’ll be contacting the winners on December 25th! You’ll have five days to respond with a shipping address otherwise I will select another winner.

Now the fun part.

•••THE PRIZES!•••

There will be two winners selected. Each one will receive one of the lots pictured above. These lots contain:

Muskrat Skull

Turkey Feather

Piece of Wolverine Fur

Small Peacock Feather

Gar Fish Scales

Blastoid Fossil

Lapis Lazuli

Fossilized Stingray Mouthplates

Pyrite Cubic Crystals

Purple Cowrie Shells

Yellow Littorina Shells

Muskrat Jawbone

Porcupine Quills

Chukar Partridge Feathers

Crinoid Fossils

Sea Urchin Spines

Each item will come bagged and with a card labeling it and telling a little bit about the item (pictured). I’ll probably be adding more items too so you’ll likely be receiving more than what is pictured.

So there you go! Have fun, best of luck, and Happy Holidays!

The Guanjuato Mummies - are considered to be amongst the strangest and most horrifying in the world. Contorted faces on some of the mummies give credence to the belief that some of them were buried alive. After author Ray Bradbury visited the catacombs in Guanajuato he stated “The experience so wounded and terrified me, I could hardly wait to flee Mexico”.

Scientific facts here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mummies_of_Guanajuato

well this is just the creepiest fucking thing ever…..and I totally want to see them
